When is this all going to end, it doesn't really matter, this is for the long term, there will be days when the market will be going downward by thousands of pouns and hundreds of points.

The point is if you have any money spare to save, as long as you have a few thousand as cash easily available, then you must put the rest into a nice balanced portfolio of equities and bonds. Just do it.
